travel united states california san diego san diego zoo

In 2019, we got the opportunity to visit the San Diego Zoon after, probably, a period of over 40 years since my last visit.
As I had expected, many things were different from my memories and it was like visiting for the first time.
This grounds and exhibits were nicely maintained and, even though the various areas covered many levels of the hillside,
adequate access was provided via bridges, elevators, buses and skyways.
We took the "round the park" bus tour first to familiarize ourselves with the various areas.
We then took the skyway, again for the same purpose.
Because the park is lushly landscaped, there are few views of the animals from the buses and skyway.
You really need to get out and walk to have any interaction with the animals.
There is enough here to keep you busy for a full day.
If we go again, I will plan to bring a picnic lunch because much of the food available in the park is over-priced.
There didn't appear to be any restrictions on what you could bring into the zoo.

There were two pandas that we saw looking down from the Bashor Bridge far above.
Apparently, they were not "on display" from any other areas.
